About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform secretarial duties and coordinate unit/floor procedures to support efficient patient care
  • Answer unit phones, take accurate messages, and place pages and phone calls
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members and other departments
  • Schedule patient diagnostic tests, appointments, and consultations
  • Maintain, label, file, copy, and request patient medical records
  • Initiate and track unit, Facilities, Bio Med, Housekeeping, and IT requests
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, transportation, equipment, and related logistics
  • Enter and update information in bed management and other hospital systems
  • Use Meditech to manage administrative data, transport requests, PASSPORT orders, specimen labels, kardexes, and medication administration reports
  • Communicate admissions, discharges, and transfers to charge nurses, clinical leaders, admitting, and nursing supervisors
  • Communicate with healthcare team members via VOCERA
  • Order and distribute unit, clerical, and patient care supplies
  • Maintain work areas and office equipment
  • Provide backup patient transport coverage and escort discharged patients and families
  • Answer patient call lights and communicate requests to clinical staff
  • Receive and orient visitors and provide basic unit information
  • Float to other pods or units as requested
  • Orient or precept new personnel and support continuing education
  • Attend staff meetings and the annual Safety Fair
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, committees, and SEAQ programs
  • Maintain confidentiality and promote organizational mission, values, and C.A.R.E. standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [CNA/PCT] credential required
  • HeartSaver CPR AED - American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Successful completion of an approved nursing assistant training program
  • Ability to effectively speak, read, and write using the English language
  • Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math, and reading testing
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements
  • Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information
  • Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift
  • Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands
  • Effective interpersonal skills with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and hospital staff
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and complete assigned work efficiently
  • Ability to manage stress related to patient care and changing hospital and personnel issues
  • Full-Time 40 Hour Nights; (2) 8-hour and (2) 12-hour shifts
  • 7:00 PM–7:30 AM and 11:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation
