About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient care and services including EKGs, phlebotomy, equipment cleaning, and room stocking under licensed-nurse supervision
- Perform secretarial duties including organizing paperwork, answering phones, paging, receiving Emergency Department patients, and maintaining medical records
- Transport patients safely throughout the hospital, including critical patients and deceased patients to the morgue
- Perform 1:1 patient sitting when necessary
- Apply restraints under provider direction and licensed-nurse supervision according to hospital policy
- Clean medical equipment and clinical environments to prevent infection
- Deliver specimens to the laboratory and follow specimen-handling procedures
- Arrange ambulance transfers when the department secretary is absent
- Perform EKGs and retrieve prior EKGs in the MUSE system
- Obtain laboratory specimens and support in-house draws
- Assist providers with patient procedures
- Clean and restock the glidescope and assigned rooms
- Report medical equipment repair needs
- Empty linen bags when half full
- Practice Patient and Family Centered Care
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) state-specific certification or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license required
- ED medical technician or patient care assistant experience preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, often stressful environment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to set and reset priorities
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to speak, read, and write English
- Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math, and reading testing
- Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements
- Ability to interpret basic medical terminology and abbreviations
- Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information
- Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads
- Physical ability to meet core job requirements in the practice setting
- Organizational skills to set priorities and complete assigned work
- Ability to manage stress related to patient care and changing hospital conditions

- Per diem commitment of 16 shifts in 6 months, including at least 1–2 weekend shifts per month
- Minimum 8-hour shifts
