About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide patient care and services including EKGs, phlebotomy, equipment cleaning, and room stocking under licensed nurse supervision
  • Perform secretarial duties including organizing paperwork, answering phones, paging providers, and registering Emergency Department patients in the Medi-Tech system
  • Safely transport patients, supplies, specimens, and deceased patients throughout the hospital
  • Perform 1:1 patient observation when necessary
  • Identify and report patient safety risks and changes in patient condition to licensed nurses
  • Maintain supplies, clean equipment, manage linens, trash, medical waste, and disposable items
  • Answer call lights and telephone calls and relay accurate messages
  • Provide basic nursing care, including bathing, shaving, mouth care, perineal care, linen changes, vital signs, intake/output, blood glucose monitoring, and daily weights
  • Deliver specimens to the laboratory using proper handling procedures
  • Document care and patient data in Epic EHR
  • Assist interdisciplinary staff and participate in interdisciplinary teams
  • Provide non-clinical information and basic patient-care instruction to patients and families
  • Assist with PICC placement procedures, sterile-field setup, supplies, patient positioning, and post-procedure cleanup as assigned
  • Participate in quality-improvement programs and communicate quality issues
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, competencies, standards, and applicable regulations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) state-specific certification required OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license required
  • ED experience as a medical technician or patient care assistant in an Emergency setting preferred
  • ICU: 1 year experience as a medical technician or patient care assistant preferred
  • OPIC, Perioperative, or IV Therapy experience as a medical technician or patient care assistant preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, often stressful environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to set and reset priorities
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced critical care environment
  • Per diem requirement: 16 shifts in 6 months, including at least 1–2 weekend shifts per month
  • Minimum 8-hour shifts
  • Weekend and holiday rotation
