About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support healthcare teams with clinical and non-clinical patient services under healthcare provider direction
- Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities
- Participate in onboarding training
- Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare equipment
- Interview patients and obtain medical information
- Measure and record vital signs, weight, and height in medical records
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions
- Order and organize educational materials for patient education
- Perform office duties including answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms
- Liaise with other departments and advocate for patients using a positive customer service approach
- Collect, log, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing
- Perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated
- Maintain immunization inventory and check expiration dates
- Provide immunizations as applicable under provider supervision
- Improve departmental quality initiatives, including two patient identifiers and hand hygiene
- Manage patient flow and collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
- Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] preferred
- Flexibility with scheduling needs, including weekend and holiday coverage as needed
- Preferred experience working in a high-volume physician practice, urgent care, or emergency room
- Phlebotomy competence for performing phlebotomy
- Certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine, with provider supervision, for providing immunizations as applicable
