About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Monitor patients and the tone and activity of the psychiatric unit
- Coordinate and execute milieu groups and unit activities
- Maintain a safe environment and perform safety checks
- Use de-escalation, limit-setting, and behavioral intervention strategies
- Participate in restraint/seclusion when less restrictive measures fail and monitor restrained or secluded patients
- Assist adult and geriatric patients with activities of daily living
- Take and document vital signs, weights, blood glucose, and specimens
- Notify registered nurses of abnormal findings or changes in patient condition
- Assist with admissions, belongings searches, and patient property management
- Follow milieu care plans and participate in group treatment programs
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
- Attend team meetings, teaching conferences, and special case conferences
- Document patient observations and group notes in the medical record
- Use Outlook, PeopleSoft, Faulkner 411, and other databases
- Support patient and family psychosocial needs and provide resource information
- Participate in competency, quality improvement, and customer service activities
- Coordinate patient information and care across departments and facilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Mental Health preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- 2+ years of inpatient psychiatric experience preferred
- Previous group experience preferred
- Two years inpatient MHW experience will be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
- Computer proficiency
- Ability to maintain CPR certification
- Ability to complete annual competencies and ongoing education
- Ability to work 40-hour evening shifts
- Ability to work onsite at 1133 Centre Street
