About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct and indirect care to perioperative patients
  • Facilitate each patient’s readiness for surgery
  • Perform EKGs and blood glucose monitoring
  • Support Perianesthesia procedures within scope
  • Respond to medical emergencies using Heartsaver CPR and AED skills
  • Transport patients and equipment safely throughout the hospital
  • Secure equipment and supplies
  • Monitor and report patient condition and significant changes to the RN
  • Collect and record patient data, including vital signs, intake and output, blood sugar, weights, restraint care and monitoring
  • Provide non-clinical information and orient patients and visitors
  • Reinforce nurse-provided patient education and provide basic care instructions
  • Maintain patient and family-centered care and comply with hospital standards, policies and competencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language
  • Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements
  • Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift
  • Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work
  • Ability to manage stress related to patient care and changing hospital and personnel issues
  • Technical skills may include EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, simple dressings, Heartsaver CPR and AED skills
  • Per diem requirement: 16 shifts in 6 months, including at least 1–2 weekend shifts per month
  • Minimum 8-hour shifts; weekend and holiday rotation
