About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform secretarial duties and coordinate unit/floor procedures under the Nursing Director
  • Answer and manage unit phone calls, take messages, and place pages and calls
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members and other departments
  • Schedule patient diagnostic tests, appointments, and consults
  • Maintain, label, copy, and file patient medical records
  • Initiate and track Facilities, Bio Med, Housekeeping, and IT requests and work orders
  • Order, expedite, and distribute unit, clerical, and patient-care supplies
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, transportation, and equipment
  • Use bed management, Meditech, Quadramed, VOCERA, and other hospital systems
  • Enter and update administrative, bed management, diet, code status, medication reconciliation, restraint, billing, and recovery-charge information
  • Receive and orient visitors and provide basic unit information
  • Answer patient call lights and communicate requests to clinical staff
  • Provide clerical support and back-up patient transport coverage
  • Float to other pods or units as requested
  • Orient or precept new personnel and act as a resource
  • Attend staff meetings, safety events, continuing education, and quality-improvement activities
  • Participate in unit projects, committees, SEAQ programs, and interdisciplinary patient/family-centered care

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical or customer service setting preferred
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
  • Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and adapt to interruptions, emergencies, and acutely ill patients
  • Ability to work independently with well-developed organizational skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles
  • Knowledge and skills to provide indirect care appropriate to adolescent through geriatric patients
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for an extended period of time
  • Ability to assist lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to assist with patient transportation
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • 16 hours weekly; two 8-hour rotating shifts
