About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead investment accounting and controllership for derivatives across insurance and non-insurance entities
- Ensure accuracy of investment results across derivative strategies on a GAAP and statutory basis
- Support process enhancements for an accelerated close producing timely, accurate, and complete investment accounting results
- Create an environment where the team is inspired, engaged, and motivated to learn and grow
- Lead a collaborative and inclusive culture with Investment Management Operations, Investment Managers, and other Controllers teams
- Manage monthly reconciliations between the ledger and investment systems for derivatives
- Oversee monthly analytics reports and present findings to stakeholders
- Review footnotes and NAIC Schedule DB for accuracy and timely completion
- Lead and execute process redesign efforts for derivatives and enhance analytics supporting quarterly derivative results
- Support implementation of new hedging strategies and evolving accounting standards
- Collaborate with Accounting Policy on GAAP and statutory accounting treatment
- Partner with the Investment Middle Office to design subledger operational processes
- Execute and oversee derivative accounting and controllership processes and controls
- Serve as point of contact for external auditors on derivative-related matters
- Perform control functions in compliance with NAIC Model Audit Rule and the company’s internal control structure
- Perform ad hoc analysis and assist with special projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree
- 8+ years of progressive experience in Investment Accounting and/or Investment Operations, including derivative investments
- Foundational understanding of upstream processes and impacts to downstream accounting and controllership
- 3+ years of experience in insurance company Investment GAAP combined with Statutory accounting including Schedule DB
- 2+ years of experience as a people leader managing direct reports OR 5+ years demonstrating informal leadership by guiding, coaching, and supporting colleagues
- Strong communication skills
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced, dynamic, agile, and evolving environment
- Experience with different investment types and structures
- Experience with system conversion or subledger implementation
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional groups
- CPA, CFA, CMA, or equivalent designations are ideal qualifications
- Experience with Aladdin platform and SQL is a plus
