About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close cycles for mortgage loan and real estate asset classes
  • Account for investment transactions in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Review and analyze reports prepared by the third-party administrator
  • Review financial statements, footnote schedules, regulatory filings, and management reports
  • Analyze trends and results and develop commentary explaining impacts on financial results
  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial analysis reports to senior management
  • Support annual regulatory financial statement audit requests and participate in auditor discussions
  • Manage competing priorities and improve established processes
  • Identify and implement accounting improvements
  • Lead increasingly complex projects and continuous improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with Accounting Policy, Chief Investment Office, Tax, Financial Reporting, Capital Management, and business unit controllers
  • Implement new statutory and GAAP investment accounting requirements
  • Establish accounting processes for new investments and investment-related transactions
  • Develop, document, and maintain the internal control framework
  • Monitor investment accounting controls, including vendor-performed work
  • Participate in implementing the Company’s new ledger

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of investment accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, PivotTables, data analysis, and large financial datasets
  • Experience with investment, loan, mortgage loan, and/or real estate accounting is a plus
  • CPA designation or progress toward certification preferred
  • Knowledge of statutory (STAT) and GAAP accounting
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data and communicate results
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work efficiently and operate with increasing independence
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across cross-functional teams and with third parties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic, agile environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning
