About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Monitor and supervise machine production in the expansion/extrusion area
- Change over and start up machinery
- Initiate and complete shift-to-shift handoff with other operators
- Operate the spooling rewind function
- Complete paperwork recording material and labor usage
- Support and assist with machine maintenance and servicing
- Monitor dimensions and quality through worker self-inspection
- Notify the supervisor of equipment malfunctions and work with maintenance to identify repairs
- Check and comply with work instructions and process parameters
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and work instructions
- Participate in machine and process improvement projects through the internal continuous improvement management system
- Participate in HSE measure planning and implementation to promote an Incident and Injury Free workspace
- Ensure adherence to the Leader Standard Work profile
- Operate all equipment safely and effectively
- Train new and junior employees on SOPs, safe and efficient work practices, and product quality requirements
- Perform other duties assigned by management
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Previous Manufacturing experience required
- Experience handling mechanical measuring equipment required
- Experience setting up and operating production equipment required
- Ability to read gages, perform measurements, calculate differences to specification, and percentages
- Computer and data entry skills of production metrics into production tracking systems
- Manual dexterity, high willingness to learn and self-motivation
- Ability to learn new processes and programs as required for the job
- Ability to work independently and in a team with enthusiasm and reliability
- Ability to learn Lean principles
- Ability to learn how to interpret and respond to SPC charts
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of materials, production processes and quality control
- Active listening and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing dynamics
- Visual ability to examine or inspect material
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, order jackets, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Standing for sustained periods of time
- Making substantial movements/motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Frequently lifting and/or moving spools weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally required to sit; climb and stoop, kneel or crouch
