About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide specialty medical care within a defined scope of practice under physician supervision
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to diagnose and treat hematology/oncology conditions in the outpatient setting
  • Write progress notes, procedure notes, and admission and transfer orders
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening, laboratory, and diagnostic tests
  • Perform procedures beyond core privileges as identified by Hematology/Oncology services
  • Facilitate communication among patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Participate in quality indicator and outcomes dashboard development and evaluation
  • Maintain knowledge of current Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner developments and trends
  • Participate in hematology/oncology clinical research projects
  • Provide oversight of infusion services and manage treatment-related adverse events
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans and monitor their effectiveness
  • Educate, counsel, and assist patients and families regarding disease, treatment, health maintenance, and preventive behaviors
  • Document care in the Electronic Medical Record and complete required documentation
  • Collaborate and consult with physicians and other healthcare providers
  • Attend required training and meet regulatory and privileging requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant qualification
  • Five years of experience as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner preferred
  • 1–2 years in a clinic or hospital environment working with hematology/oncology patients preferred
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization
  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization
  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Wisconsin RN license; Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License; certification as Advanced Practice Nurse; AHA BCLS; DEA
  • Physician Assistant: Wisconsin PA license; certification by NCCPA; AHA BCLS; DEA
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
  • Certification as Adult Care NP and/or Acute Care NP preferred
  • Must meet regulatory requirements of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission
  • Must be appropriately trained and credentialed to perform procedures
  • Scheduling flexibility required to provide patient care coverage
  • Ability to provide infusion coverage during some holidays and/or early morning/early evening hours
