About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide specialty medical care as part of a multidisciplinary health care team
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifying normal and abnormal findings
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans and monitor their effectiveness
  • Educate patients and families on disease, treatment plans, health maintenance, and preventive behaviors
  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed
  • Document in the Electronic Medical Record and complete required documentation
  • Collaborate with physicians, health care providers, interdisciplinary teams, specialty care teams, and primary care providers
  • Diagnose and treat cardiothoracic surgery patients in a primarily inpatient environment
  • Write H&Ps, progress notes, consult notes, procedure notes, discharge summaries, and admission, discharge, and transfer orders
  • Manage the perioperative period
  • Perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests
  • Perform privileged procedures such as wound care and drain management
  • Facilitate continuity of care across patients, families, and staff
  • Meet regulatory requirements and attend required training
  • Evaluate quality outcomes through quality indicators and outcomes dashboard participation
  • Develop expertise in coordinating and delivering care to cardiothoracic surgery patients

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization
  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization
  • BLS Certified (American Heart Association Basic Life Support)
  • DEA Eligibility
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Wisconsin APRN Licensure
  • APRN Certification
  • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization or historical certification equivalent
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP), or Family NP (FNP) certification
  • Physician Assistant Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
  • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Previous experience of 2+ years working as an APP is preferred, not required
  • Highly desired previous experience in acute care, surgical specialties, hospitalist, internal medicine, perioperative, cardiology, or emergency medicine teams
