About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work delinquent subprime consumer loans to minimize losses through effective collections strategies
  • Contact delinquent customers by phone, email, and written correspondence to secure payments and bring accounts current
  • Establish contact with borrowers and set manageable repayment terms acceptable to the bank
  • Understand customers’ financial situations and negotiate payment arrangements
  • Conduct skip tracing to locate borrowers and collateral
  • Use tools and techniques to locate borrowers and encourage repayment of past-due accounts
  • Document collection efforts, customer interactions, payment commitments, and account activities in the loan servicing system
  • Provide professional and empathetic customer service while balancing collections and recovery
  • Build relationships with borrowers and promote successful loan experiences
  • Collaborate with underwriting, customer service, and legal teams on recovery strategies
  • Determine next steps, including possible repossession assignments, litigation, or third-party vendor involvement
  • Make recommendations to management regarding accounts needing additional attention
  • Assist other department areas as required by business needs
  • Ensure collection activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including the FDCPA and company policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in collections, subprime lending, or consumer finance
  • Experience with delinquent loan recovery preferred
  • Responsible, honest, and strong work ethic
  • Professional conduct and appropriate workplace relationships
  • Ability to handle difficult conversations professionally
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to professionally answer incoming calls and assist callers effectively
  • Ability to nurture and manage business relationships with third-party loan servicers and other vendors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required based on business needs
  • Employment contingent on passing a background check and maintaining a clean background
