About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and mentor data engineers on the Madrid team
  • Provide technical direction and constructive code reviews
  • Partner with distributed engineers across North America and India
  • Design, build, and optimize robust ETL/ELT pipelines processing millions of daily data points
  • Champion AI coding assistants and prompt-based development
  • Establish team best practices and review standards for AI-assisted development
  • Build proofs-of-concept for tools and patterns such as ClickHouse, dbt, and open-source orchestration frameworks
  • Translate prototype results into clear technology adoption recommendations
  • Help migrate from Azure Databricks to an open, flexible, AWS-based stack
  • Understand upstream and downstream systems to ensure end-to-end data delivery
  • Establish testing, validation, monitoring, observability, and CI/CD practices
  • Learn the Advertising and Market Research domain and translate business needs into technical requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6-8+ years in data engineering / ETL as a hands-on engineer
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or informally guiding other engineers
  • Strong SQL and RDBMS skills
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server and Postgres, including schema design, performance tuning, and complex query optimization
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, ClickHouse, and open-source pipeline/orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster
  • Strong proficiency in Python or a similar language
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude
  • Ability to verify, test, and refine AI-generated code and queries
  • Experience with a major cloud platform; AWS strongly preferred
  • Ability to prototype, benchmark, and evaluate new technologies
  • Comfort with Git, code reviews, and writing tested, maintainable, well-documented code
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with distributed engineering, product, and business teams
  • Bonus: experience in Advertising, Media, or Market Research
  • Bonus: familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform
  • Bonus: experience with Kafka
