About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Apply human-centered principles, methodologies, and technologies to human-machine systems and products
  • Develop and implement research methodologies and qualitative and quantitative analysis plans
  • Test and evaluate new concepts and developmental prototypes throughout product development and process phases
  • Design and execute simulated product-use tests for user-needs investigation, concept exploration, requirements development, use-related risk identification, and formal usability validation
  • Work with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements
  • Optimize human-machine interfaces and overall user experience
  • Identify and analyze technological problems and risks
  • Perform theoretical human factors investigations
  • Develop and implement research and analysis plans to inform new product development direction
  • Manage major or moderately complex projects, delegate work, review work products, and provide guidance, coaching, and training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree satisfying 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required
  • Human-centered principles, methodologies, and technologies
  • Qualitative and quantitative research and analysis
  • Human factors investigations
  • Product development and usability validation knowledge
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers and vendors
  • Ability to manage major or moderately complex projects
  • Physical ability to be independently mobile and interact with a computer and communicate with peers and co-workers
  • U.S. work authorization sponsorship policy applies; Principal-level roles and above may be eligible for sponsorship
