About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish and govern enterprise standards, patterns, guidelines, and best practices
  • Assess the technology portfolio to identify gaps and guide modernization and capability maturation
  • Develop technology capability models and roadmaps aligned to business priorities
  • Identify opportunities and risks across value-stream ecosystems and shape platform strategy
  • Assess IT solutions, identify technical risks, and provide strategic architectural guidance
  • Guide design decisions enabling a resilient, scalable, and sustainable technology landscape
  • Represent Global Architecture in reviews of new initiatives, component viability, and key design decisions
  • Support teams engaging with the Architecture Review Board and IT governance forums
  • Participate in architecture reviews and reinforce enterprise standards
  • Maintain architecture documentation and technical risk reviews in the architecture repository
  • Align business and solution architecture across design, implementation, and enhancements
  • Consult with technology teams on systems and infrastructure alignment
  • Develop value-stream roadmaps and capability maturation plans
  • Assess capabilities, technologies, and gaps; support portfolio rationalization
  • Evaluate industry and market trends and conduct impact analyses
  • Support solution selection and system integrator evaluations
  • Partner with Enterprise Portfolio Management on delivery priorities
  • Communicate architectural direction, outcomes, and progress to senior leadership
  • Design architectures for connected devices, edge computing, mobile applications, and A2A/B2B integrations
  • Apply cloud security architectures, cloud-native services, and enterprise migration strategies
  • Embed automated security controls, guardrails, and compliance scans into CI/CD pipelines
  • Ensure cloud infrastructures adhere to NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, and FedRAMP frameworks
  • Define enterprise data architecture and governance incorporating clinical data standards
  • Lead interoperability and API strategies using FHIR, HL7 v2+, DICOM, OMOP, and secure data exchange frameworks
  • Apply AI, automation, and productivity expertise to projects and business solutions
  • Lead technical due diligence and integration planning for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
  • Develop solution roadmaps using SAFe/Scaled Agile practices and EPMO tools
  • Contribute expertise in Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, microservices, data pipelines, Kafka, and DevSecOps
  • Partner with business and IT leaders on strategic technology opportunities
  • Mentor team members and support innovation, demand management, and portfolio processes
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, globally connected team environment
  • Serve as a role model for Medtronic values, leadership behaviors, and core competencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 5+ years of experience aligned to a relevant architecture discipline (preferred)
  • 5+ years working with data architecture, data modeling, data management (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience and strong knowledge of Enterprise-class architecture concepts, definition, and creation (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in information architecture or 5+ years of experience as data analyst, business intelligence analyst, or equivalent roles (preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience with data architecture of cloud-based solutions within an Enterprise environment (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience working with large enterprise ERP data models (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in business capability, process, technology, and data modeling (preferred)
  • Knowledge in user experience modeling, information design, & concept generation
  • Certifications in frameworks such as TOGAF or other service and control frameworks, such as ITIL or COBIT (preferred)
  • Strong business acumen, decision making, and influence skills across all levels of an organization
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills
  • Strong communication skills, including with employees, clients, senior management and vendors
  • Strong results orientation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employees, leaders, clients, & vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a global, virtual organization
  • Excellent presentation skills, including translating technical information into business terms
  • Technology depth and credibility with technical staff
  • Work experience in the Medical Device Industry, or other regulated industry
  • Ability to mentor and develop business, architecture, and technical resources

  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree satisfying 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required
  • Must possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment unless eligible for the stated Principal-level sponsorship policy
