About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Establish and govern enterprise standards, patterns, guidelines, and best practices with the Enterprise Architecture team
- Assess the technology portfolio to identify gaps and guide modernization and capability maturation
- Develop technology capability models and roadmaps aligned with business priorities
- Identify opportunities and risks across the value-stream ecosystem and help shape platform strategy
- Assess IT solutions, identify technical risks, and provide strategic architectural guidance
- Guide design decisions enabling a resilient, scalable, and sustainable technology landscape
- Represent Global Architecture in reviews of new initiatives, component viability, and key design decisions
- Support teams engaging with the Architecture Review Board and IT governance forums
- Participate in architecture reviews and reinforce enterprise standards and alignment
- Ensure architecture documentation and technical risk reviews are completed and maintained
- Align business and solution architecture across design, implementation, and enhancements
- Consult with technology teams to align systems and infrastructure with enterprise architecture strategy
- Develop value-stream roadmaps, assess capabilities and gaps, define maturation plans, and support portfolio rationalization
- Evaluate industry and market trends and conduct impact analyses for transformation initiatives
- Support solution selection and system integrator evaluations
- Partner with Enterprise Portfolio Management to align architecture plans with delivery priorities
- Communicate architectural direction, outcomes, and progress to senior leadership
- Design architectures for connected devices, edge computing, mobile applications, and A2A/B2B integrations
- Develop cloud security architectures, migration strategies, automated security controls, guardrails, and compliance scans
- Ensure cloud infrastructures adhere to applicable regulations and security frameworks
- Define enterprise data architecture and governance frameworks incorporating clinical data standards and real-world data patterns
- Lead interoperability and API strategies using FHIR, HL7 v2+, DICOM, OMOP, and secure partner data exchange frameworks
- Lead technical due diligence and integration planning for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
- Develop solution roadmaps using SAFe/Scaled Agile, business capability models, APQC, EPMO tools, and process-mining insights
- Apply expertise in Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, microservices, Kafka, data pipelines, and DevSecOps
- Partner with business and IT leaders on strategic technology opportunities
- Mentor team members and support innovation, demand management, and portfolio processes
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, globally connected team environment and model Medtronic values
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of experience with an advanced degree
- U.S. work authorization requirements apply; unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required for roles below Principal level
- For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree satisfying 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required
- 5+ years of experience aligned to a relevant architecture discipline preferred
- 5+ years working with data architecture, data modeling, and data management preferred
- 3+ years of experience with Enterprise-class architecture concepts preferred
- 3+ years of experience in information architecture, or 5+ years as a data analyst, business intelligence analyst, or equivalent preferred
- 2+ years of experience with data architecture of cloud-based solutions in an enterprise environment preferred
- 3+ years of experience working with large enterprise ERP data models preferred
- 3+ years of experience in business capability, process, technology, and data modeling preferred
- Knowledge of user experience modeling, information design, and concept generation preferred
- Certifications in TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, or similar frameworks preferred
- Strong business acumen, decision-making, influence, leadership, teamwork, communication, presentation, and results-orientation skills preferred
- Ability to collaborate with employees, leaders, clients, and vendors preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in a global, virtual organization preferred
- Technology depth and credibility with technical staff preferred
- Work experience in the medical device industry or another regulated industry preferred
- Ability to mentor and develop business, architecture, and technical resources preferred
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively preferred
- Past internal experience in the value streams is a large plus
- Ability to use Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, microservices, Kafka, CI/CD, and DevSecOps practices
- Knowledge of cloud security architectures, cloud-native services, enterprise migration strategies, NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, and FedRAMP
- Knowledge of FHIR, HL7 v2+, DICOM, OMOP, webMethods or comparable integration platforms, SAFe/Scaled Agile, APQC, and EPMO tools
