About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assess patients and develop and initiate treatment plans based on evaluation results
- Perform complete, comprehensive patient evaluations and accurately interpret findings
- Complete written plans of care and develop goals and comprehensive programs
- Provide direct patient care and basic occupational therapy treatments
- Assess patients periodically, monitor progress, and modify goals, plans, or programs as indicated
- Motivate and instruct patients and caregivers
- Supervise COTAs and rehabilitation technicians regarding individual patient care
- Communicate with patients, caregivers, physicians, insurance companies, and professional colleagues
- Present relevant professional literature at meetings, grand rounds, conferences, and university settings as requested
- Document findings, progress, instructions, medical records, and other documentation accurately
- Serve as Clinical Instructor for OT or OTA interns when needed
- Ensure safe care and follow Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and service standards
- Support department goals and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university-based Occupational Therapy program
- Current or temporary license to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
- Current certification in Basic Life Support
- Ability to lift up to 75–100 pounds occasionally or frequently and carry up to 30 pounds
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and frequently walk, stoop and squat
- Fine hand dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Ability to receive oral and written communication and communicate verbally and in writing
- Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment; recognize alphanumeric characters; distinguish colors; and observe physical characteristics
