About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform patient care activities under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Identify and respond to abnormal findings and escalate changes in patient condition to the nurse
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, including elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, mobility, bathing, toileting, and progress activity
  • Monitor vital signs and patients’ conditions visually
  • Document patient information accurately and report unusual changes or findings
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Follow safety rules, policies, procedures, and organizational safety programs
  • Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while managing time, supplies, productivity, and service quality
  • Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens within the scope of the role
  • Support mandatory education, skills competency, department goals, and professional development
  • Help orient new employees as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • No formal education required
  • Certified in Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association before hire
  • Two years of prior patient care experience, such as Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician, or a similar role; preferably in an acute care setting
  • Phlebotomy skills check-off required within 90 days of hire
  • Proficiency in all core competencies of the PCT position, validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education by the end of orientation
