About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze overpayments to patient accounts
- Research account payment history and determine appropriate refund or correction transactions
- Review patient account credit balances and make refund, adjustment, or correction entries
- Apply insurance rules and policies when calculating refund transactions
- Verify multiple patient accounts and determine whether refunds should be applied to other accounts
- Assist insurance companies with coordination of benefits to resolve account discrepancies
- Respond to patients, patient representatives, and insurance companies regarding refund status
- Prepare refund invoices for processing overpayments
- Maintain refund status records to ensure compliance with government regulations
- Meet productivity goals assigned by management
- Adhere to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, safety standards, budgetary specifications, and quality-of-service expectations
- Support department-based goals and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of hospital business office or medical related experience preferred
- Some knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid/Managed Care reimbursement procedures in a healthcare setting preferred but not required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel
- 10-key and math skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Must meet mandatory/continuing education and skills competency requirements
