About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide technical leadership and direction for multiple agile teams or projects
Implement prioritized software product roadmaps
Design, develop, and maintain complex software systems
Write high-quality code for complex scenarios with good test coverage
Review and translate product requirements into robust designs for distributed application systems
Lead design and code reviews of multiple applications
Lead multiple sprint teams within the same product area to deliver new or improved features
Address impediments to delivering high-quality solutions for product-backlog items
Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of intended functionality
Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers across multiple teams
Collaborate with product managers to estimate effort, prioritize work, plan, and deliver roadmap items
Foster innovation and excellence within Mercury engineering

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related fields Or equivalent combination of education and experience
7+ years software engineering experience with proven experience in cutting-edge Technologies and/or those used at Mercury
3+ years hands-on experience leading multi-team engineering initiatives for building features in a distributed application systems environment
Proficient in programming in one or more industry-standard languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript)
Proficient in data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
Experience with relational databases, NoSQL, and caching solutions
Skilled in APIs using modern protocols like REST and gRPC
Experience with message queuing, data streaming, workflow, and integration frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, Amazon SQS, MS MQ, and Apache Camel
Knowledge of microservices architecture
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Proficient in AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
Experience leveraging DevSecOps
Experience designing and implementing distributed application systems
Experience leveraging analytics data and experimentation
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Demonstrated leadership skills through mentoring and technical guidance
Experience championing operational excellence, quality, performance, scalability, maintainability, and observability
Experience driving technical strategy and vision for multiple teams
Must be able to work from the United States
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science
Preferred: 7+ years working in Java, Python, Spring boot, Microservices, etc.
Preferred: 3+ years working on big data platforms such as AWS, Kafka, Spark, etc.
Preferred: 1+ years working on Generative AI initiatives using closed- and open-source models and libraries
