About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as subject matter expert and primary compliance advisor for Mercury’s AI and agentic products, including Command, API, MCP, and CLI
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Risk, Data, Operations, and Legal to bring AI products to market compliantly
  • Advise product and engineering teams throughout discovery, design, evaluation, launch, and iteration
  • Identify, assess, and document AI and agentic-system compliance risks and design mitigation strategies
  • Define compliance requirements for AI infrastructure, including the LLM gateway, internal app platform, agent orchestration frameworks, and data access layer
  • Establish and refine AI-specific compliance standards, evidence requirements, logging requirements, human-review criteria, escalation paths, and out-of-bounds activities
  • Support product launches, expansions, co-marketing, and distribution partnerships with third-party AI platforms
  • Monitor AI-related regulatory, supervisory, and industry developments and implement required changes
  • Own multiple concurrent high-impact AI compliance workstreams and ensure alignment with company objectives
  • Lead remediation efforts, including root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and execution tracking
  • Partner with executives, partner-bank compliance teams, and external advisors on high-level AI decisions
  • Support policy development, documentation standards, audit preparation, and examiner interactions
  • Mentor compliance colleagues and develop scalable compliance tools, templates, and frameworks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of experience in a compliance advisory, product compliance, or regulatory risk role, ideally within fintech or financial services
  • Demonstrated experience advising on AI, machine learning, or model-driven products in a regulated environment, or comparable experience standing up a new compliance domain
  • Working knowledge of UDAAP, fair lending and ECOA/Reg B, FCRA and adverse action, Reg E and payments authorization, BSA/AML, GLBA and privacy, marketing and disclosure requirements, recordkeeping, complaint management, model risk management expectations, and third-party and vendor risk management guidance
  • Familiarity with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and state AI and automated decisioning laws
  • Technical fluency in model behavior, evaluation and testing, agent permissioning and tool scoping, logging and observability, and data access controls
  • Deep experience partnering with product and engineering teams on regulatory and compliance matters across the product lifecycle
  • Proven ability to own ambiguous, large-scale compliance problems and create and execute strategies without waiting for precedent
  • Experience designing compliance frameworks spanning multiple product lines or departments
  • Demonstrated success operating with executives, partner banks, auditors, or regulators and presenting data-driven recommendations
  • Strong project management skills, including defining problems, creating execution plans, managing multiple high-impact initiatives, and driving outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience mentoring mid-level compliance professionals
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and genuine interest in frontier technology and regulatory challenges
