About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate patient accounts, including insurance and benefit verification, denial management, and collections
  • Identify patient assistance programs, such as drug copay cards, for which patients may qualify
  • Assist patients with enrollment in assistance programs
  • Monitor services rendered
  • Bill assistance programs for applicable funds
  • Monitor insurance company regulations for changes in precertification, documentation, and claims submission requirements
  • Communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and insurance companies
  • Serve as a resource for other staff and patients
  • Perform duties consistently with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Education preferred: Some college hours in Business, Finance and/or Accounting related courses
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Thorough understanding of claims procedures, insurance company regulations, oncology coding and billing
  • Knowledge of insurance benefit verification, denial management, collections, precertification, documentation, and claims submission requirements
  • Interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in stressful situations, meet deadlines, and perform daily responsibilities with consistent accuracy
  • Ability to use logic and good judgment and rapidly identify and initiate corrective actions when problems arise
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to provide direction to co-workers
  • Ability to deal effectively with VBO management and co-workers in demanding situations
