About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive revenue growth, market penetration, and customer engagement across Australia and New Zealand
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans for capital equipment and consumable revenue streams
  • Achieve quarterly and annual revenue targets through distributor performance management
  • Develop and maintain forecasts for instrument, consumable, and service revenue
  • Develop strategic account plans for academic, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical customers
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities
  • Conduct product demonstrations and technical presentations
  • Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through contract negotiation and close
  • Manage regional distribution partner relationships and strategic business plans
  • Establish distributor performance expectations, operating cadence, and accountability measures
  • Provide distributors with product training, sales tools, and technical support
  • Conduct distributor business, pipeline, forecast, and territory reviews
  • Monitor distributor performance and implement improvement plans
  • Collaborate with distributors on customer visits, events, and promotional activities
  • Lead distributor onboarding, business planning, and enablement for new products and market expansion
  • Develop regional market knowledge, including competitive landscape, customer needs, and buying behaviors
  • Represent MSD at conferences, tradeshows, and scientific meetings
  • Build opportunity pipelines through prospecting, networking, and relationship development
  • Provide market intelligence and customer feedback for product development and marketing strategies
  • Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, lab directors, and procurement decision-makers
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through responsive communication and problem resolution
  • Coordinate technical support with Field Applications Scientists
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, territory plans, and key account plans
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Field Applications, Technical Support, Operations, and APAC leadership teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, biotechnology, or related field required
  • Five to seven years of successful sales experience in the life sciences industry
  • Experience managing distribution partners or channel sales relationships
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets
  • Ability to manage a territory in a distributor-led sales environment while maintaining direct customer engagement and executive-level account relationships
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and ability to multitask
  • Experience managing complex capital equipment sales cycles involving scientific, operational, procurement, and executive stakeholders
  • Strong business acumen and ability to design strategic account plans, develop new business, and expand existing accounts
  • Effective negotiation and closing skills
  • Analytical mindset with ability to use data to drive decisions
  • Strong technical background and understanding of life sciences research workflows and applications
  • Familiarity with immunoassays, biomarker analysis, or related technologies preferred
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal communication, presentation, and training skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Proven track record of successful team management and staff management practices
  • Proficiency with CRM systems; Salesforce experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays and work outside normal business hours as needed
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize necessary equipment, and move about the office
