About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee Outside Plant Construction operations
- Deliver safe, high-quality construction projects throughout the country
- Manage multiple Project Managers leading high-volume, multi-million-dollar FTTH/FTTP projects on time and within budget
- Determine fundamental design and delivery schedules for city-wide FTTH networks
- Support business objectives through operational procedures, technology adoption, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and continuously improve systems and workflows
- Maintain strategic relationships with internal departments, jurisdictional authorities, pole owners, and contractors
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for the OSP Construction organization with other Vice Presidents
- Establish relationships with Engineering/Design, Field Operations, Sales/Marketing, Business Development, and Real Estate/Legal
- Enhance safety and ethical compliance across a geographically diverse field force
- Oversee large-scale FTTP/FTTH project management and implementation
- Maintain a customer-service-oriented environment focused on problem avoidance and rapid resolution
- Evaluate field processes and tools and implement technology-enabled improvements
- Recruit, develop, onboard, and retain staff in partnership with senior management, Recruiting, and Associate Resources
- Define annual goals, conduct performance reviews, and communicate updates
- Build collaborative teams focused on safety, business objectives, and employee career development
- Identify and resolve personnel issues
- Prepare and conduct meetings, presentations, negotiations, and organizational activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- 15+ years of combined telecommunications construction and/or network operations experience, including management of multi-layered teams
- 10+ years of field force management preferred
- BS/BA degree in an applicable field supporting job requirements is a plus
- Experience implementing and improving systems and processes for construction operations management
- Experience managing large construction project P&L
- Weekly travel necessary; over 50% of weekly time traveling to existing, proposed, and new markets
- Ability to participate in monthly meetings with market representatives
- Ability to participate in negotiations with government agencies, utility companies, locating services, and construction partners
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed
- Exceptional strategic planning and leadership skills
- Proven record of recommending and implementing process and efficiency improvements
- Demonstrated success identifying and executing strategic business opportunities
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, and team motivation skills
- Ability to synthesize customer needs into clear, concise, influential presentations and teach others to do so
- Ability to work effectively across internal functional groups
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrated success identifying talent and building individual and management capability
- Proven track record of building successful organizations
- Exceptional strategic and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of telecommunications technologies, construction methodologies, FTTH architecture, and materials/products
