About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own MGT's pricing function, including rate indications, rating plan design, rate filings, classification and territory relativities, and schedule rating logic
- Own the reserving function, including quarterly reserve estimates, IBNR analysis, loss development studies, and reserve adequacy testing
- Provide actuarial sign-off for rate filings submitted to state insurance departments
- Partner with Legal and Compliance on regulatory rate justification
- Partner with Underwriting on rate adequacy by class, segment, and geography
- Serve as actuarial subject-matter expert for Athena, MGT's AI underwriting agent
- Own loss trend analysis and translate findings into pricing and underwriting guideline recommendations
- Partner with Finance on reserve-related financial reporting, statutory filings, and audit support
- Contribute actuarial perspective to reinsurance treaty structuring, submissions, and loss pick discussions
- Present pricing and reserving results to Co-CEOs, the board, reinsurers, auditors, and other stakeholders
- Build actuarial infrastructure, data pipelines, modeling standards, and documentation
- Evaluate and incorporate new data sources and AI/ML-driven modeling techniques
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of actuarial experience in commercial P&C insurance, with direct experience in both pricing and reserving
- Demonstrated experience owning rate filings and reserve estimates independently
- Strong technical foundation in GLMs, loss development triangles, rate indication methodology, and reserve adequacy testing
- Experience working with state insurance department rate filing requirements and processes
- Ability to translate complex actuarial analysis into clear recommendations for underwriting, product, and executive stakeholders
- Comfortable operating as a build-from-scratch or small-team actuarial function
- FCAS or ACAS designation strongly preferred; candidates with substantial equivalent experience and progress toward fellowship will be considered
- Experience in small commercial or BOP lines specifically
- Experience integrating actuarial models into real-time underwriting or quoting systems
- Experience with reinsurance treaty structuring and loss pick development
- Proficiency in R, Python, or similar tools for actuarial modeling and analysis
- Must work onsite at least 3 days per week in Denver, Madison, or San Francisco
