About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Contribute to the undergraduate music education curriculum
- Maintain an active program of scholarly and/or creative activity appropriate to a tenure-track appointment
- Mentor students and participate in service to the Department of Music, College of Creative Arts, University, and profession
- Teach undergraduate music education courses, including Introduction to Music Education and instrumental methods courses
- Teach additional courses based on departmental priorities and the candidate’s expertise and interests
- Supervise student teachers and coordinate clinical experiences in public school settings
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students
- Serve as faculty advisor for professional student music organizations
- Develop and sustain an active agenda of scholarship, research, and/or creative activity
- Identify, develop, and pursue internal and external grant opportunities and other funding sources
- Contribute service to the Department of Music, College of Creative Arts, University, profession, and broader community
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment, recruitment, and program initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctorate in Music Education or a closely related field by the date of appointment
- Minimum of three years of successful K–12 instrumental music teaching experience
- Evidence of the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Evidence of the potential to establish and sustain a program of scholarly, research, and/or creative activity appropriate to a tenure-track appointment
- Demonstrated success teaching music education at the collegiate level
- Experience with curriculum development, program coordination, or supervision of clinical and student-teaching experiences
- A student-centered approach to teaching, advising, and mentoring
- Evidence of emerging or established scholarly activity in music education
- Demonstrated strength in an additional area of musical, pedagogical, scholarly, or creative expertise that would complement and broaden the Department of Music’s existing strengths and curricular offerings
- Evidence of effective collaboration with colleagues, schools, and community partners
