About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying rare neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Use patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to generate brain organoids modeling human brain development
  • Apply molecular and cellular approaches, single-cell transcriptomic profiling, and bioinformatic analysis
  • Study how disease-associated genetic variants affect developmental gene regulatory programs, neural cell specification and maturation, and neuronal function
  • Contribute to experimental design, data collection and analysis, interpretation of results, and preparation of findings for presentation and publication
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining the Varma Lab
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and collaborative research activities
  • Present research findings at scientific conferences and contribute to manuscript preparation
  • Train and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers in laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • M.S. in biology, neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology, or a related discipline
  • At least 3–5 years of research experience in iPSC culture
  • Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research laboratory
  • Human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture experience preferred
  • Neural differentiation, neuronal culture, and/or brain organoid culture experience preferred
  • Molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, and related approaches preferred
  • Immunocytochemistry and microscopy experience preferred
  • Training or mentoring undergraduate researchers preferred
  • Prior experience with human iPSC culture strongly preferred
  • Cover letter and curriculum vitae required
  • Criminal background check required
  • Participation in E-Verify
