Construction Inspector III

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support clients as an on-site construction agent through construction phases from pre-design to close-out
- Document construction projects and inspect job activities for compliance with project plans and specifications
- Complete daily reports documenting contractor labor, equipment, work performed, and pertinent conversations
- Measure and calculate pay item quantities
- Assist with plotting cross-sections and computing earthwork quantities
- Report directly to the Senior Inspector and/or Project Manager
- Maintain project records
- Conduct work safely
- Travel and work nights and weekends as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of experience in highway and bridge construction inspection
- Experience with earthwork, asphalt paving, concrete paving, storm drain systems, retaining walls, bridge elements, traffic control, SW3P, and other highway/bridge construction items
- High School diploma
- Organized, determined, and resourceful; able to demonstrate urgency while accurately and safely performing work
- Ability to build relationships with a wide variety of people
- Ability to work with minimal to no supervision
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid Texas driver’s license and annual motor vehicle record check
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel
- Ability to enter data rapidly and accurately and operate tools and equipment
- Ability to interpret construction plans, details, standards, and specifications
- Ability to maintain project records
- Open to traveling
- Open to working nights and weekends
- Ability to conduct work safely
- One or more certifications as necessary: Certified Asphalt Technician Level IB - Field Tester; Certified Concrete Technician (ACI and TxDOT Certification); Certified Asphalt Roadway Technician; Work Zone Safety Certification; Radiological Safety Course Certification; SB102
- TXDOT highway/bridge construction experience and inspection certifications preferred
- TXDOT experience preferred but not required
- Nuclear gauge certification preferred but not required
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, working in extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, hazards, and wearing protective gear
