About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical oversight and responsibility for analytical data and reports generated by the laboratory
  • Review raw data as needed and final analytical reports
  • Work with the Quality team to ensure analytical data is regulatory compliant and legally defensible
  • Develop and update test methods and standard operating procedures
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to explain testing requirements under regulatory standards
  • Process samples across various laboratories
  • Oversee analysts and technicians during daily production
  • Ensure customer expectations are met
  • Conduct routine training for laboratory staff and maintain training records
  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to the laboratory
  • Oversee development and validation of new methods
  • Manage non-routine work and projects, data validation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, certification, and licensing requirements
  • Serve as a technical resource for the laboratory
  • Supervise laboratory procedures and validate results
  • Maintain records and manage testing activities
  • Review data for accuracy and final analytical data reports
  • Monitor QA/QC performance and validity of analyses and data
  • Address staff and client needs using technical knowledge
  • Collaborate with sales and project teams to satisfy client needs
  • Define minimum qualifications and skills for positions within the assigned unit
  • Ensure staff receive adequate training, guidance, and direction
  • Participate in research, acquisition, installation, and validation of new instruments
  • Participate in process improvement and methods development
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Officer with QA/QC audits, investigations, and corrective actions
  • Interpret technical results and communicate laboratory capabilities to current and prospective clients
  • Collaborate with QA and Laboratory Leadership on investigations, non-conformances, corrective actions, audit deviations, and out-of-control analyses
  • Report to the Laboratory Director

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology
  • Minimum of 5 years of food microbiology laboratory experience
  • Technical knowledge of analytical techniques in the Environmental and Food testing fields
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • High level analytical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to conduct analysis and read, interpret, and report technical data
  • Ability to respond effectively, in writing and verbally, to sensitive or highly technical inquiries
  • Ability to prioritize own and other’s time to meet workload and client expectations
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and tools
  • Ability to talk or hear
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, and sit
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Color vision and depth perception
  • Willingness/ability to travel less than 20%
