About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct high-level peer review and project oversight
- Build and maintain client relationships
- Mentor and manage less-experienced actuaries
- Interact directly with clients and their vendor partners
- Direct, train, and guide Actuarial Analysts on tasks such as data cleaning and checking
- Lead marketing opportunities, including publications and presentations
- Oversee ad hoc and longer-term project execution
- Draft written reports, exhibits, and internal/external correspondence
- Present findings to peers, project managers, and client relationship managers
- Comply with internal quality control, risk management, and peer review guidelines
- Document how data is compiled for specific projects
- Implement process improvements
- Perform other duties assigned by practice Principals
- Manipulate and summarize complex data in Excel
- Apply programming, statistical, and database skills to client assignments
- Collaborate across Milliman offices and time zones
- Travel nationwide periodically for meetings, conferences, and team events, up to 20%
Requirements
What you’ll need- Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) at the time of application
- Up to 10 years of professional actuarial full-time work experience in pricing, reserving, predictive modeling, capital modeling, enterprise risk management, and/or reinsurance-related actuarial topics for North American and/or European companies
- Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher at the time of application, including quantitative coursework in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, etc.
- Mastery of R for statistical modeling
- Proven proficiency with Excel and Word
- Working knowledge of supplemental database and professional tools such as Access and PowerPoint
- Strong critical thinking, technical, analytical, and creative thinking skills
- Superb attention to detail and technical accuracy
- Ability to investigate inconsistencies, missing information, or unusual results and consult with Principals
- Ability to work collaboratively and organize multiple client needs across projects
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and put in extra effort when required by clients
- Ability to clearly articulate questions and ideas
- Intellectual curiosity about risk, Milliman, and the practice’s work
- Excellent time management skills, including collaboration across time zones
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future
- Preferred: Published thought leadership and/or industry conference presentation experience
- Preferred: Mastery of @Risk, VBA, Python, SAS, STATA, or similar statistical and modeling tools
