About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop intimate knowledge of IntelliScript’s current product capabilities
  • Provide advanced analytical expertise to enhance products through new solutions
  • Construct, validate, document, and deliver sophisticated GenAI and machine learning solutions for healthcare-related problems
  • Research, develop, deploy, and maintain traditional AI/ML models following industry best practices
  • Work extensively with available GenAI models
  • Construct GenAI solutions for internal and external use cases across markets
  • Enhance internal capabilities through centralized internal tooling and thought leadership
  • Coordinate with data scientists, Product, Business Development, ML Engineering, and IT teams to bring data science products to market
  • Support existing industry-leading products
  • Drive best practices and continuous improvement on the data science team
  • Participate in model design and experimentation strategy through planning, audit, peer review, and coaching
  • Develop and implement commercially viable model-based solutions for healthcare, insurance, life sciences, and adjacent markets

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of professional experience using AI/ML to create high return on investment commercial data science solutions
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records or unstructured data analysis
  • Strong understanding of traditional AI/ML model-building approaches, including supervised and unsupervised learning
  • Experience with model validation, cross-validation, hyperparameter optimization, and A/B testing frameworks
  • Knowledge of neural networks, transformers, and transfer learning
  • Knowledge of NLP algorithms, including text preprocessing, TF-IDF, word embeddings, topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and named entity recognition
  • Strong understanding of NLP and generative AI; ability to use, fine-tune, and evaluate commercial models and deploy/integrate local LLMs
  • Hands-on experience building GenAI applications such as RAG systems, LLM evaluation frameworks, or GenAI-powered internal tools
  • Strong Python programming skills, with some experience in R and/or SQL
  • Proficiency with Databricks or a similar cloud-based model development ecosystem, including MLflow, data catalogs, experimentation organization, and compute cluster configuration
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices, including Git, unit testing, local development, and environment management
  • Awareness of ML Engineering and MLOps concepts and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, Docker, AWS Lambda, and Linux
  • Degree in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics, applied math, actuarial science, or economics
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to understand client analytical needs, translate them into an action plan, and execute and deliver
  • Customer-centric approach to finding solutions
  • Ability to explain findings in a way that answers business problems
  • Ability to learn new techniques and technologies quickly
  • Ability to identify process improvements
  • Ability to manage projects and timelines, including directing the work of others
  • Applicants must be willing to travel to the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI as needed and travel nationwide for meetings, conferences, and team events
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field or Actuarial designation (FCAS/FSA) preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, finance, life sciences, or similar fields preferred
  • Experience at an InsurTech or FinTech preferred
  • Past experience working in a HIPAA / PHI / PCI compliant environment preferred
