About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and hire the Financials engineering team
- Find, attract, hire, onboard, coach, and manage performance for engineers
- Ship multiple 0-to-1 financial products, expanding expenses, reimbursements, and per diems into enterprise-ready financial systems
- Remain hands-on as a player-coach, solving difficult engineering problems through code and design
- Set the Financials roadmap, architecture, and quality bar
- Own reliability for business-critical systems
- Partner directly with the CEO and earliest Financials customers to discover product requirements
- Make fast but durable architecture and product decisions for a greenfield project
- Participate in recruiter, hiring manager, technical, and virtual onsite interviews
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant hands-on engineering career at senior or staff level
- Moving into or early in management; first or second management role
- Experience taking 0-to-1 products or new product lines from scratch to shipped
- Experience in a complex, high-correctness domain such as fintech, payments, or payroll
- Ability to design and evolve correctness-critical transactional systems at scale
- Strong engineering ability, capable of being among the strongest engineers on the team
- Track record of attracting and hiring strong engineers
- Experience raising a small team's level through direct feedback and technical mentorship
- Decisiveness under ambiguity
- Credibility with executives and demanding customers
- Nice to have: vertical SaaS, construction or field-services, workforce and payroll experience, direct financial systems experience, latest AI developer tooling, and UX aptitude
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must answer whether immigration sponsorship will be required
