About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Head of South East Asia and C-suite in shaping compliance market pathways and country sequencing.
- Build and maintain regulatory dossiers for target countries, covering regulatory landscapes, Article 6 architecture, LoA requirements, timelines to first compliance revenue and addressable market size.
- Identify host-government decision-makers and drive Letter of Authorization applications through approval.
- Ensure LoA applications align with national NDCs, sustainable development criteria, corresponding adjustment approaches and environmental integrity requirements.
- Engage national and ministerial stakeholders in coordination with country heads and resolve policy blockers.
- Bring in and manage local partners, in-country experts and senior advisors when needed.
- Represent Mitti at Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific policy forums, ministerial roundtables, COP and SB sessions.
- Build partnerships with IRRI, ADB, the World Bank, JICA, national rice research institutes, NGOs and agricultural carbon developers.
- Support compliance access under CORSIA, Singapore's international carbon credit framework, bilateral Implementation Agreements, Japan's JCM and GX-ETS.
- Attend compliance demand conferences and facilitate meetings with buyers and intermediaries.
- Track and anticipate regulatory, Article 6 and methodology developments across the region.
- Coordinate with science and operations teams to keep dMRV and ground operations current.
- Advise the commercial team on pricing and contracting implications and advocate for favorable regulatory text where commercially valuable.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5 to 7 years in carbon markets, climate policy, international environmental governance or a closely related field, including significant time working in South East Asia.
- Strong understanding of compliance carbon markets relevant to Asia: CORSIA, Singapore's carbon tax and international carbon credit framework, Japan's JCM and GX-ETS, and emerging domestic schemes across SEA.
- Working command of Article 6 mechanics: 6.2 cooperative approaches, 6.4 (PACM), ITMOs, LoAs, corresponding adjustments, DNA roles and reporting obligations.
- Clear understanding of how LoAs are secured in SEA.
- Experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder government and policy environments across Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Japan.
- Exceptional written and spoken communication and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to quickly understand new methodologies and distil dense regulation into strategic insight.
- Ability to show how project environmental benefits contribute to a country's NDC and net zero strategy.
- Fluent English.
- Direct experience securing an LoA or equivalent host-country authorisation from a SEA government (strongly preferred).
- Existing relationships in environment ministries, DNAs, agriculture ministries or national climate bodies in the region (strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with agricultural carbon markets and rice methane methodologies, including AWD methodologies under Verra, Isometric, Gold Standard and the JCM (strongly preferred).
- Experience in an early-stage company or startup environment (strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Khmer, Japanese or another regional language (strongly preferred).
