About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as lead counsel for all labor and employment-related legal matters across the organization
  • Provide strategic advice on federal, state, and local employment law compliance, with significant focus on California law
  • Advise on discipline, terminations, reductions in force, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence, and workplace investigations
  • Partner with HR leadership to mitigate risk and develop legally sound policies and procedures
  • Oversee employment litigation, administrative charges, and agency investigations, including EEOC, DFEH/CRD, and Labor Commissioner claims
  • Direct outside counsel, manage budgets, and develop litigation strategy
  • Assess exposure and provide practical risk analysis to senior leadership
  • Draft, review, and update employment policies, handbooks, agreements, and training materials
  • Guide multi-state compliance, particularly California wage and hour laws, PAGA matters, and regulatory developments
  • Support internal audits and compliance initiatives
  • Advise executive leadership and business partners on employment matters
  • Deliver labor and employment law training to HR and operational leaders
  • Provide practical legal solutions aligned with MITER Brands' culture and operational goals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant, hands-on experience with California labor and employment law in a sophisticated, multi-location environment
  • Strong employment litigation management experience and comfort partnering with outside counsel
  • Significant California labor and employment law expertise and experience managing PAGA matters
  • Experience managing litigation directly and/or in collaboration with outside counsel
  • Pragmatic, business-focused mindset able to balance risk, culture, and operational realities
  • Executive presence and communication skills to influence at the highest levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel to MITER Brands operations support locations and manufacturing facilities as needed
