About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Install, program, and maintain advanced public safety communication systems
- Support dispatch consoles, P25 and Astro25 trunked radio networks, and Motorola APX and MOTOTRBO platforms
- Identify root causes, execute corrective actions, and verify system performance
- Perform field service including site visits, turn-ups, cutovers, acceptance testing, signal/coverage verification, and configuration documentation
- Partner with customers to plan installation and programming strategies, coordinate access, and ensure site readiness
- Assist with scope development, quoting, and estimating for service, installation, and programming projects
- Perform preventive maintenance, firmware/software updates, subscriber reprogramming, and configuration management
- Make minor mechanical/electronic modifications such as connector, wiring, antenna, and accessory adjustments
- Complete service tickets with work performed, parts used, and recommended follow-up actions
- Mentor junior technicians through technical guidance and hands-on coaching
- Build customer relationships and serve as the primary technical contact
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours technical support
- Support public safety customers across Maryland and Washington, DC
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on technical experience supporting advanced public safety communication systems
- Proven success managing technical service, installation, maintenance, and programming of communications equipment and infrastructure
- Advanced skills diagnosing, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex radio and wireless communication systems
- Proficiency with Motorola Solutions public safety communication systems or similar competitors
- Experience with P25/ASTRO 25 systems, Motorola APX radios, MOTOTRBO/DMR platforms, VHF/UHF LMR infrastructure, trunked and conventional networks, repeaters, and dispatch consoles
- Strong knowledge of radio theory, RF fundamentals, propagation characteristics, and communication system behavior
- Excellent communication skills with end users, dispatch personnel, contractors, and third-party vendors
- Strong customer focus and team-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, work independently, and maintain quality and safety standards
- Current and valid driver's license
- Successful background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check required as a condition of employment
- Ability to reside within the central region of Maryland and within a commutable distance of the service area
- Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Occasional second- or third-shift and weekend availability
- Technical certifications/licenses are strongly desired, including Motorola trainings, FCC GROL, ETA, or safety certifications
