About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Define, align, and maintain the Group COO strategy across UK Operations, EU Operations, and Controls
Lead the goal-setting process for the Group COO area and align objectives across sub-functions
Partner with Finance to build and embed a dependable monthly financial reporting and forecasting process
Lead the transition to a global operating model balancing global efficiency with local market requirements
Take accountability for high-impact short- and medium-term strategic projects across Monzo
Track progress against the Group COO strategy and communicate updates for CEO reporting, the PRA 90-Day Plan, and the GCOO Leadership Team
Build relationships with leadership across Customer Operations, EU Operations, Controls, Finance, Technology, and the wider Monzo team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Extensive experience operating at a senior strategic level, ideally within fintech or complex operational environments
Track record of shaping business strategy through structured problem-solving, data, and deep business insight
Proven ability to turn strategy into executable projects delivered on time and to quality
Ability to operate strategically while handling detailed execution
Experience in highly matrixed environments with shared ownership
Ability to build alignment, resolve trade-offs, and hold cross-functional teams accountable without direct reporting lines
Fluency in the language of Operations, Finance, Technology, and Controls
Ability to translate complex operational or technical signals into clear executive narratives for technical and non-technical audiences
Experience thriving in unstructured environments and establishing governance and communication strategies
Financial discipline and analytical capability
Hands-on experience partnering with Finance to connect operational levers to commercial performance
Experience navigating complex global versus local operational structures and managing trade-offs across multiple markets
Superb communication skills, including distilling complex ideas and metrics into actionable insights through storytelling, board decks, and leadership updates
