About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Accept referrals and conduct intake and assessment
- Engage clients to identify their situation and establish counselling goals and service options
- Provide individual and group-based counselling support and psychoeducation
- Provide information about the criminal justice system, family law, transition houses, victim assistance, alcohol and drug programs, and mental health services
- Maintain confidential client records, session notes, termination summaries, and database information
- Accompany clients to community services when needed
- Develop and facilitate workshops and group activities
- Support time-limited violence prevention projects
- Provide information, advocacy, support, and referrals
- Prepare project information, statistical reports, narrative reports, and funder submissions
- Report to the manager on program quality standards
- Promote programs and conduct community outreach
- Present to service providers and potential clients
- Develop and deliver information workshops on violence-related topics
- Act as a resource for community partners and represent the agency at consultations, meetings, and conferences
- Perform administrative and other duties assigned by the manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field, or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience
- 2 to 3 years of experience working in the anti-violence sector as a frontline worker
- Strong advocacy skills
- Knowledge of justice systems, family law, immigration processes, housing, welfare, and legal aid
- Knowledge of gender-based violence dynamics, anti-violence sector, trauma-informed practice, and community resources, programs and services
- Counselling skills
- Crisis intervention skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, publishing software, and databases
- Data management skills
- English communication skills; other languages an asset
- Cultural sensitivity
- Organizational, prioritization, and deadline-management skills
- Initiative and problem-solving skills
- Presentation and facilitation skills
- Tact, discretion, diplomacy, patience, and flexibility
- Legally permitted to work in Canada through citizenship or permanent resident status, or a work permit valid for the duration of the position
- Ability to commute to the Boundary office at 5575 Boundary Rd., Vancouver, British Columbia
