About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle all future scheduling for the OR schedule, including telephone requests, faxes and scheduling slips
- Take verbal add-on cases for the current day and ascertain pertinent patient data
- Communicate add-on cases and cancellations to the O.R. coordinator and appropriate areas
- Use computerized and non-computerized OR Management scheduling systems to coordinate daily surgical case scheduling
- Apply block scheduling system rules and regulations to enter surgical cases
- Coordinate the order of surgical cases considering shared resources, personnel availability and surgeon preferences
- Communicate confirmation numbers of scheduled cases to physicians' office staff using RightFax
- Notify surgeons/offices of surgery times for next-day procedures
- Notify Inventory Control Specialist of specialty items needed for boarded procedures
- Communicate daily with O.R. coordinators, O.R. Manager and Anesthesia regarding problems, conflicts and special requests
- Access department communications daily through telephone voicemail and/or email
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school graduate required
- Associate's degree and/or 3 years of experience in a hospital or health related field with focus on medical registration and medical terminology strongly desired
- Proficient in MS Word
- Knowledge of Windows based applications
- Proven ability to effectively use multiple computer systems
- Previous Operating Room scheduling or unit clerk experience desired
- Must live in the state of Michigan
- Must be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella
- Must receive a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year hired and annually thereafter, or receive an approved medical or religious exemption
