About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee the daily workflow and operations of the HR department and provide direction and support to HR staff
  • Provide performance feedback and evaluations to HR staff
  • Handle employee disciplinary actions and terminations in accordance with company policies and employment laws
  • Partner with the HR Director on department matters
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement HR policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys
  • Administer and/or oversee compensation, benefits, leave administration, disciplinary matters, employee disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, engagement, occupational health and safety, and training and development programs
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs, create job descriptions, and oversee sourcing, screening, interviewing, and hiring
  • Ensure pre-employment documentation, background checks, and requirements are completed before onboarding and start dates
  • Oversee onboarding and completion of employment documentation and compliance requirements
  • Independently manage the DOT compliance portal, including pre-employment and random testing, alerts, records, and issue follow-up with the safety team
  • Oversee disciplinary meetings, terminations, workplace investigations, and employee relations matters
  • Provide guidance to HR staff, management, and supervisors on complex and sensitive issues
  • Monitor and ensure federal, state, and local employment-law compliance and update policies as needed
  • Maintain knowledge of HR and employment-law trends, regulations, best practices, and technologies, and communicate relevant changes to upper management
  • Administer and assist with union labor relations, CBA compliance and renewal negotiations, grievances, and communications among management, union representatives, and members
  • Analyze compensation and benefits trends, conduct market research, and recommend competitive pay, incentive, and benefits programs
  • Use ADP Workforce Now performance management tools to administer annual performance appraisals across West Coast Group Affiliates
  • Maintain and update HRIS records and support employee training programs and engagement surveys
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Business level English – read/write/speak/listen
  • Bilingual in Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese or a foreign language is a plus
  • Willingness to travel for business as required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive experience with ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS systems
  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resource Management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching, and people management skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact with staff regularly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to sit and work in an office setting for extended periods of time
