About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify the best method for retrieving blood
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing
- Perform screening procedures
- Verify test requisitions against nursing station logs and resolve discrepancies
- Verify patient identification
- Obtain blood specimens through venipunctures and finger sticks
- Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic and isolation procedures
- Track collected specimens and maintain daily collection tallies
- Record quality-control results and report needed changes
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment
- Resolve unusual test orders with physicians, pathologists, nursing stations, or reference laboratories
- Participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations
- Handle PHI in paper and electronic forms
- Manage and print patient reports
- Answer and triage billing questions and follow up with patients
- Schedule courier pickups through FedEx or Medspeed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Phlebotomy Certificate (if required by State)
- BS/BA degree (preferred)
- Ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards
- Ability to work in an office setting with scrubs required
- Ability to track each draw
- Must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security training within the first 30 days of hire
- Must maintain current status on Natera training requirements
