About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Verify test requisitions against nursing station logs and report discrepancies
- Verify patient identification
- Obtain blood specimens through venipunctures and finger sticks
- Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic and isolation procedures
- Track collected specimens and maintain daily collection tallies
- Maintain quality results, record quality-control data, and report needed changes
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment in compliance with standards and regulations
- Resolve unusual test orders with physicians, pathologists, nursing staff, or reference laboratories
- Update job knowledge through education, professional publications, networks, and professional organizations
- Manage PHI in paper and electronic forms using relevant technologies
- Manage and print patient reports
- Answer, triage, and follow up on billing questions with patients
- Schedule courier pickups through FedEx or Medspeed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Phlebotomy Certificate (if required by State)
- BS/BA degree preferred
- Ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards
- Work in an office setting with scrubs required
- The position requires tracking of each draw
- Employee must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security training within the first 30 days of hire
- Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements
