About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work closely with the manager to ensure company and team goals are met
  • Ensure high-quality work is completed on time
  • Manage day-to-day staffing, scheduling, and sample run schedules
  • Ensure production work meets department goals
  • Ensure all case samples are processed and accounted for
  • Use laboratory information systems to ensure data accuracy
  • Monitor cases approaching promised turnaround times and identify causes of issues
  • Collaborate with managers and departments to prevent future incidents
  • Update SOPs and coordinate with Document Control, QA, and Training teams
  • Monitor adherence to SOPs and safety procedures
  • Oversee and support training for new hires
  • Investigate and follow up on lab errors and assist with CAPAs
  • Handle employee issues and collaborate with the manager on resolutions
  • Meet with team members regarding goals and progress
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and lead shift meetings
  • Ensure regulatory compliance through documentation, audits, and corrective action
  • Act as the manager's go-to person when the manager is absent
  • Assist with day-to-day laboratory tasks
  • Approve timecards and PTO requests
  • Escalate laboratory issues and team concerns to the manager
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues across the laboratory process
  • Ensure team goals are met and complete manager-assigned projects
  • Interact with OPS, Accessioning, Engineering, Stats, R&D, and Support teams
  • Provide direction to employees and administer company policies
  • Directly supervise professional and skilled support individual contributors
  • Act as an advisor to the unit or sub-units
  • Handle PHI in paper and electronic form
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6+ years of experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory environment
  • BS/BA degree in Biological Sciences, related field, or equivalent
  • Current ASCP board certification in Medical Technology or California State CLS or CGMBS license
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Ability to take on own projects with little supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, troubleshooting, and pipetting skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Word processing and data management skills
  • Must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security training within the first 30 days of hire
  • Must maintain current status on Natera training requirements
  • Must pass post-offer criminal background check
  • Ability to work weekends as required
