About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop strategic NESO positions on market coordination and practical approaches to achieve them
  • Understand interactions between transmission- and distribution-level electricity markets and market participant commercial behaviour
  • Work closely with the Market Facilitator to understand and influence flexibility market rules
  • Manage and deliver NESO actions in the Market Facilitator Delivery Plan
  • Collaborate with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, Ofgem, and internal NESO teams
  • Support delivery of different Market Facilitator workstreams
  • Contribute to NESO’s collaboration with the Market Facilitator and implementation of its rules

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Right to work in the UK by the start of employment
  • Strategic mindset and ability to understand complex problems and work collaboratively across teams
  • Understanding of the GB electricity system and market design, including wholesale markets, balancing mechanism, NESO ancillary services, and DSO markets
  • Understanding of NESO and DSO markets and their role in operating the electricity system
  • Understanding of flexibility in electricity markets and its contribution to GB’s Clean Power target
  • Understanding of GB electricity market policy and design
  • Knowledge of key electricity policy instruments, such as the Clean Flexibility Roadmap
  • Understanding of the economics of investment in GB electricity assets, including generation, flexibility, and DSR
  • Ability to conceptualise the impact of net zero on GB electricity wholesale and NESO balancing service markets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing, slide packs, and presentations
  • Ability to present complex issues to audiences with varying levels of familiarity in power systems and power markets
  • Strong interpersonal skills in influencing and working effectively across an organisation
  • Evidence of developing strategies based on collaborative working, expert insight, and independent analysis
  • Ability to quickly understand new challenges and develop structured approaches
  • Proven ability to bring together a project team to deliver change across a business
  • Knowledge of and experience in technical, commercial, or operational aspects of flexibility assets and flexibility markets
  • Applicants may be full-time or part-time and may use flexible working arrangements
