About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and govern NESO’s overarching network architecture across LAN, WAN/SD-WAN, cloud platforms, and data centre environments
- Translate business objectives into network designs, architectural standards, roadmaps, and best practices
- Architect scalable, automated, secure, resilient network solutions
- Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, application teams, and external partners across hybrid and cloud environments
- Drive adoption of Network DevOps and Infrastructure as Code principles
- Own end-to-end network security architecture across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments
- Design, document, and govern network segmentation, Zero Trust, firewall, and secure connectivity strategies
- Develop and maintain a 12–24 month network security technology roadmap
- Define, publish, and enforce enterprise-wide network security standards and conduct architectural reviews
- Act as the highest escalation point for complex network security incidents and design permanent root-cause solutions
- Research emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends and recommend architectural innovations
- Design and review cloud security architectures
- Mentor engineering and operations teams and provide technical leadership
- Serve as a technical authority for stakeholders and senior management
- Support automation, observability, predictive analysis, compliance reporting, wireless architecture, and self-healing network capabilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant demonstrable experience in network engineering, including extensive hands-on experience in a dedicated Network Principal or Lead role designing global, enterprise-scale networks
- Expert-level knowledge of BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, MPLS, TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, and DHCP
- Advanced knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and WiFi, firewalls, F5/other load balancers, and SD-WAN technologies
- Strong understanding of AWS/Azure networking, including VPCs, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Security Groups, NAT, and Cloud WAN
- Mastery of network monitoring, observability, and IPAM tools at scale
- Expert knowledge of enterprise LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, data centre, Internet Edge, cloud networking, and network security architectures
- Deep understanding of network segmentation, Zero Trust, SDN, micro-segmentation, and secure service access
- Experience designing resilient architectures across multiple data centres, cloud platforms, and critical national infrastructure environments
- Experience designing resilient internet connectivity, including dual ISP connectivity, provider-independent addressing, DDoS protection, and high availability networking
- Experience with network automation, orchestration, Infrastructure as Code, Python, Ansible, Terraform, GitOps, REST APIs, NETCONF, and YAML
- Experience implementing automated device provisioning, configuration management, compliance verification, policy deployment, security remediation, certificate management, software lifecycle management, capacity reporting, and service health monitoring
- Ability to create architectural diagrams using Visio/Lucid and presentations for engineering teams, peers, and senior management
- Deep understanding of ITIL concepts within an Agile, process-driven environment
- Experience integrating network infrastructure into CI/CD pipelines
- Experience establishing self-service operational capabilities through automation and orchestration platforms
- Experience leveraging AIOps, machine learning, telemetry, flow analytics, packet analysis, predictive analysis, and closed-loop remediation
- Experience implementing automated compliance reporting and governance controls supporting NIS, CAF, ISO27001, and audit requirements
- Expert understanding of Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7
- Experience designing, governing, and optimising large-scale wireless deployments
- Understanding of RF design and optimisation, wireless security, NAC integration, client roaming, location services, spectrum management, and high-density deployments
- Experience evaluating and implementing self-healing network technologies and AI-assisted operational capabilities
- Experience with Cisco routers and switches, Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls
- Cisco CCNP Enterprise certification
- Cisco CCDE highly desirable, not essential
- Aruba Certified Design Expert, PCNSE/FCSS, cloud networking certification, and network automation qualification desirable
