About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Act as the EMR Modelling Team's lead advisor on Capacity Market and security of supply policy
  • Identify and assess security of supply implications of policy, regulatory and market developments across the wider electricity sector
  • Translate complex analytical insights into clear policy messages
  • Ensure emerging policy developments are reflected in future modelling priorities and methodologies
  • Provide expert analysis and advice on Capacity Market design, de-rating methodologies and wider security of supply frameworks
  • Lead evidence-based responses to consultations, policy proposals and market reforms
  • Build relationships across Government, regulators and industry
  • Represent NESO's security of supply expertise and influence discussions on future market and policy developments
  • Identify emerging trends and strategic risks influencing future adequacy outcomes
  • Bring policy insight into the EMR Modelling Team and help maintain relevant frameworks, assumptions and focus areas

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience within the energy sector, typically 3+ years
  • Strong knowledge of electricity market policy, regulation and market design
  • Good understanding of the Capacity Market and its role in delivering security of supply in Great Britain
  • Ability to understand complex analytical and modelling methodologies used to assess adequacy and security of supply risks
  • Strong awareness of electricity market developments, including flexibility, storage, interconnection, renewable generation and market reform
  • Ability to identify risks, opportunities and unintended consequences arising from policy and regulatory change
  • Excellent written communication skills and experience producing clear, evidence-based advice, consultation responses, briefings or policy recommendations
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Ability to build trusted relationships across technical, policy and regulatory communities
  • Comfortable working in a highly technical environment and translating between policy and evidence
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK by the start of employment
  • Visa sponsorship may not be available and will be considered in line with business requirements
  • Collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a specialist team
