About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance platforms and solutions supporting energy modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis
  • Ensure alignment between business strategy, policy objectives, and technology delivery
  • Work across multiple domains to enable integrated, enterprise-wide capabilities
  • Collaborate with data scientists, energy modellers, delivery teams, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders
  • Enable complex scenario simulations such as decarbonisation pathways, demand forecasting, and market simulations
  • Own end-to-end architecture designs across SEP and S&P capabilities
  • Engage with programme stakeholders and articulate pragmatic solutions
  • Participate in meetings and workshops with DD&T colleagues, Delivery Partners, and Suppliers
  • Map solution requirements to solution designs and consider technology, people, and process implications
  • Produce and secure approval for architectural artefacts including Solution Options and Recommendations, Solution Intents, and High-Level Designs
  • Collaborate with Integration, Security, Platform, and other SMEs to deliver comprehensive solution collateral
  • Define innovative solutions addressing security, performance, reliability, scalability, stability, data archival, and disaster recovery
  • Support and guide Delivery and Test teams in validating changes within the wider solution footprint
  • Define, document, and resolve technical dependencies and blockers with team members and other Solution Architects
  • Align solutions to strategy and identify transitional and tactical options
  • Provide specialist technical support across all solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience in designing large-scale data and analytics platforms
  • Expertise in cloud architectures, preferably Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, and Fabric
  • Experience with big data technologies including Spark, Hadoop, and distributed systems
  • Proficiency in data modelling, especially time-series and simulation datasets
  • Knowledge of APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures
  • Understanding of energy systems, including electricity markets, renewables, grid operations, or oil & gas
  • Experience with energy modelling tools or frameworks such as PLEXOS, TIMES, PyPSA, or EnergyPLAN
  • Familiarity with scenario modelling, forecasting, and optimization techniques
  • Strong understanding of statistical modelling, machine learning, or optimization approaches
  • Experience enabling data science workflows, including notebooks and MLOps
  • Knowledge of Python, R, or similar modelling environments
  • Excellent problem-solving and systems-thinking abilities
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive architectural decisions
  • Experience delivering complex, cross-domain architectures
  • Experience with data-led platforms and decision-support systems
  • National Security Vetting (NSV) clearance required
  • Usually need to have been a resident in the UK for the last five years to apply for the required level of clearance
  • Right to work in the UK by the start of employment
  • Visa sponsorship may not be available and will be considered in line with business requirements
