About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review and analyze information in automated collection systems to determine recovery actions
- Determine reasons for non-payment and establish equitable repayment arrangements with debtors and co-makers
- Counsel, advise, and assist debtors and co-makers with their financial affairs
- Negotiate repayment arrangements
- Correspond with debtors and provide information for collection correspondence
- Follow up on broken payment promises
- Locate debtor assets and retain attorneys to obtain court judgments and effect recovery
- Track legal accounts and maintain collection attorney lists
- Recommend collateral repossession, title release, and lien release
- Approve fund seizures and settlement offers within authorized limits or recommend alternatives to management
- Maintain chronological records and update automated collection systems
- Resolve credit bureau disputes and assign or recall accounts from collection agencies
- Review payments and calculate finance charges, collection costs, attorney fees, and balance waivers
- Assist branches with balancing collection systems and charged-off account general ledgers
- Monitor federal and state regulations and DoD directives
- Identify charged-off loan trends and recommend lending policy and operational changes
- Act as Custodian of the Records, sign affidavits, and appear as a witness in courts throughout the United States
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant years of experience obtained in the collection of delinquent loans
- Ability to independently apply credit and collection principles and practices to collect charged off loans, including enforced collection
- Ability to quickly read, comprehend and analyze written material
- Ability to exercise assertiveness, self-confidence and initiative
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals in difficult situations
- Thorough knowledge of credit and collection laws
- Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills including familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software
- Monday–Friday availability, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM CST
- Thorough knowledge of NFCU policies, practices and procedures (desired)
- Familiarity with NFCU automated collection systems (desired)
