About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, coach, develop, and motivate a high-performing engineering team
- Create clear expectations, ownership, and accountability
- Translate company objectives into clear engineering priorities
- Manage team and individual performance against defined objectives
- Provide feedback and coaching and address performance issues
- Champion an AI-forward engineering culture and use of AI-assisted tools across design, development, testing, problem-solving, and decision-making
- Navigate the early-stage startup lifecycle by introducing structure and process appropriately while maintaining execution speed
- Partner with Product and other leaders to incorporate AI into the platform and deliver customer value
- Provide technical judgment across architecture, cloud infrastructure, SaaS development, AI-enabled capabilities, security, reliability, and scalability
- Own engineering execution while balancing speed, quality, scalability, technical health, and resources
- Provide visibility into priorities, progress, capacity, risks, and tradeoffs to the CEO and leadership team
- Report directly to and partner closely with the CEO
- Contribute to company strategy, priorities, organizational decisions, and growth as a leadership team member
- Build partnerships across Product, Sales, Customer Success, Operations, and other functions
- Drive decisions and execution amid ambiguity, changing priorities, and limited resources
- Build a culture of ownership, autonomy, urgency, collaboration, accountability, and meaningful impact
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience with significant engineering leadership and people management experience
- Proven engineering leadership experience within an early-stage, venture-backed technology company
- Experience building and leading teams through rapid growth, changing priorities, ambiguity, and organizational evolution
- Proven track record building strong engineering teams, developing talent, setting clear expectations, and holding individuals and teams accountable for results
- Strong technical foundation with experience overseeing modern cloud-based SaaS products
- Experience leading teams that use modern AI-assisted development tools and/or build AI-enabled product capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
