About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Organize, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate professional development services for graduate students across all Arts & Science disciplines
- Direct student-facing aspects of Public Humanities at NYU in support of the Public Humanities PhD Initiative
- Interface with Arts & Science departments and the public and private sector
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for PhD students’ professional development
- Assemble a comprehensive program preparing students for professional life beyond the graduate degree
- Create and manage a framework for professional development initiatives and activities across disciplines
- Cultivate relationships with non-profit, governmental, and private sector organizations for the Public Humanities Initiative’s internship program
- Manage internship placements for public humanities PhD students
- Direct co-curricular components, including skill-building workshops for PhD students
- Counsel public humanities doctoral students on post-degree career options
- Oversee administrative support for the Public Humanities PhD Initiative and broader GSAS professional development programming
Requirements
What you’ll need- Doctoral Degree in relevant field
- Experience in a university setting
- Broad knowledge of higher education
- Specific knowledge of issues related to graduate education
- 5+ years experience in areas related to career development, public humanities, and/or higher education broadly
- Excellent written, verbal, administrative, and communication skills
- Grant writing skills essential
- Preferred: Doctoral Degree in Humanities or Social Sciences
- Preferred: Demonstrated experience in higher education, career counseling, or professional development programming
- Preferred: Experience with grant writing and management, budget management, and evaluation
